Chess Max Academy is a Chess School for kids operated by chess player and coach GM Maxim Dlugy. Our mission is to teach students the wonders of Chess through professional and engaging means. We encourage students to learn at their own pace and share their observations. Continuously giving feedback on each student's progress, we advise parents and students about where more work is needed and how to go about it.

Due to very high demand, we will try to give a priority registration for Chess Max Academy students but, all registrations will be closed to a first come first serve basis, if you need to change the timing of your class or day later on we will be happy to transfer if there is an availability.

Online Chess Classes

Our ONLINE SCHOOL offers thousands of exercises on specific themes assigned individually by our coaches. In this way each student can improve at their own speed as CMA staff will add new problems to student's portfolios as soon as they solve their assignments. Our unique online system offers live tracking of students progress as each attempt and time spent is available for review and analysis by the coaches.

Fast Improvement

For fast improvement, we highly recommend for players in the Tots, Junior and Jumpstarters group to take 2 classes per week, and for more advanced players to supplement those classes with one private lesson per week.

Max Dlugy’s students and former students have just swept the National Scholastic Qualification tournaments, having won the K-6, K-9 and K-12 sections. Their dedication paid off and they can look forward to much better placements in their educational choices going forward!

Owner of Chess Max of Greenwich, Grandmaster Maxim Dlugy, is one of the best chess coaches in the country. He’s worked with some of the greats, including Anatoly Karpov and Garry Kasparov. This past summer, he brought his company – Chess Max Academy – to a two-floor space in a brownstone at 110 West 79th Street, and January 1st 2022 he is opening a Greenwich CT location that will be a chess club and a store.

A general chess class to improve all players using Chess Max Academy’s unique chess curriculum. Classes will feature puzzle-solving on themes presented by the coach, playing games and analyzing them against the coach and the students, learning about the history of the game and much much more!

This is a class recommended for kids that are from 5-6 years old, have learned how the pieces move and are ready to take the next step in learning some basic strategies to prepare them for the Jumpstarters Class. Children will learn all rules of chess including castling, pawn promotion and understanding the ideas of checkmate and stalemate. GREAT FOR BEGINNERS

This is a class where future chess champions will be discovered!
Kids get to learn the basics of chess through special games and stories that will help them make learning fun. After graduating the students will know all the rules and basic chess strategies and tactics.

This is a class where kids will be prepared for tournament practice enabling them to feel comfortable with different time controls as well as notation. Basic opening concepts, tactical themes including must-to-know mating patterns, important king and pawn endings and thinking methods will be explained.

Recommended Age: 8 - 15 years old

This is a class for kids that regularly compete in tournaments and are interested in learning new tactical and strategic tools to improve their play. Endings, approach to learning new openings and important strategic ideas such as improving pawns structure, open lines, key squares as well as the basics of prophylactic thinking and maneuvering are studied.

Champions level 1 ( USCF Rating 1400-1700)

Recommended Age: 9 - 15 years old

This is a class for players in the top 100 of their age group in the country.
The focus will be on improving the thought process by teaching students middlegame thinking strategies, such as prophylactics, maneuvering, elimination methodology, correct exchanges and defensive tools. Important endings will also be covered. The class is conducted as a challenge for players to try to solve related problems while competing with their peers. This method proved extremely effective in the Botvinnik Chess School in Russia.
